Lion’s Paw
A member of the Pectinidae family of scallop shells, the lion’s paw is sought after by collectors.
Appearance: Lion’s Paws are robust, heavy shells with broad folds. They range in color from reddish brown to bright orange.
Associations: Protection, strength.
Uses: Lion’s Paws help us build inner strength and confidence.
Miter Shell
Appearance: Miters are somewhat elongated and conical, with smooth or spirally sculpted texture and a tall, pointed spire. Most are brightly colored.
Associations: Peace, spirituality
Uses: Because of their association with clergy, these shells calm our energy and help with spiritual introspection.
Olive Shell
Appearance: Olives are smooth and cylindrical. An elongated aperture has a distinct posterior siphonal notch.
Associations: Abundance, opportunity
Uses: These shells help us reflect on the simple gifts of life.
Abalone Shell
There are about 100 species of abalone worldwide, some used medicinally.
Appearance: Abalones are thick and oval or ellliptically shaped with a whorl ridge that is studded with holes for respiration.
Associations: Healing, prosperity.
Uses: These shells are frequently used as smudge bowls for cleansing the energy of an area. Abalone’s beautiful interior energetically attracts abundance.
Jingle Shell (My favorite!)
Appearance: Jingles are irregularly shaped circles or ovals, very light, translucent and fragile. Their iridescent sheen ranges in color from white or yellow to black to red.
Associations: The ephemeral realm, trust.
Uses: Jingles help us learn to trust our intuition and judge when it is wise to let go and ride with the tides of life.
Clam
Appearance: Clams can be circular, oval, or triangular. Their colors range from white to dark brown. Some have a papery coating over the exterior of the shell.
Associations: Abundance, communication, foundation, groundedness, healing energy, love, purification, stability, vitality.
Uses: Clams can help us find our place in the world, and protect our emotions.
Angel Wing Shell
Appearance: Angel wings are elongated and delicate, with ribs that run from the hinge to the outer edges, suggesting feathers.
Associations: Determination, freedom.
Uses: This shell helps raise our spirits and lets our intentions soar.They can also aid in contact with angelic energy.
Helmet Seashell
Appearance: These shells are heavy with short spires and wide whorls. Their long apertures have thick-toothed outer lip. The general shape suggests an ancient army helmet.
Associations: Groundedness, protection, strength.
Uses: Helmets can aid in sea centerings to keep us grounded. They can also be used to honor an ally.
Cockle Shell
Appearance: cockles are heavily ribbed and can be round or oval.
Associations: Balance, contentment, dawn, gateway to a new life, love.
Uses: Cockles are very good for centering and calming personal energy. They also represent new beginnings.
Conch Shell
Sea shells can be used for divination and positive visualization in the same way crystals and stones are used:
Associations: Knowledge, love magic, speech, sacredness, vitality, wisdom; the deities Devi, Vishnu and Yemaya.
Uses: Conchs are great for clearing negative energy and preparing an area for an event or activity. Their energy can aid in our moving inward for reflection.
